In anticipation of tomorrow's inauguration mass, I pray for the ministry of Pope Leo XIV. While not Catholic myself, as a member of the Anglican Communion, we pray for the unity of the Church. My hopes for his new papacy is that he would be a faithful witness to the Gospel and compelling evangelist. I pray he continues to show the love and compassion of Jesus that Pope Francis was known for with increased theological precision. And I pray that he is able to deepen the relationship the Anglican Communion that was enriched through the friendship of Pope Francis and Archishop Justin Welby. May he and whoever is next elected Archbishop of Canterbury also share a deep friendship in the Gospel that leads towards increased unity and faithfulness. I pray he can begin to step back from Pope Leo XIII's declaration that Anglican ordination is "absolutely null and utterly void" to find new ways to bring institutional unity based on the immense work of ecumenical dialogue that has gone on in the nearly 130 years since. Most of all, may he be a wise pastor that points the world to the work of Jesus.
